Calle 24 El Paso Concert reviews
Great overall, minor suggestions
An additional merch booth would have been a good idea, I think. It was clearly marked and conveniently located, a great venue. I drove a few hours away for the concert and appreciated the wide variety of food available. Since we didn't have time to grab food before the concert, didn't feel like I was limited to only pizza. Had a fantastic slushy! Plenty of options, and not outrageous prices. The seats were good, not too close together, decent legroom. Bathrooms were often enough to make it a quick trip. It was frigid in the venue for at least an hour and a half. I'm always hot, but I was cold. And my companion was absolutely freezing. She put on both her merch shirt and mine to stay comfortable. In addition to her long sleeve shirt and a coat. I don't know if they didn't want to turn on the heat or trying to preempt the impact of body heat once the stadium filled. But it was certainly not hot/warm in the venue. It could have easily been 5-10 degrees warmer. I think it was mid 60s, but couldn't say for sure.
The opening act was impossible to understand. I'm under 30 and have normal hearing, but the audio mixing was not good in my opinion. The vocals were indistinguishable under the drums and guitars. They were a heavy rock band. But being unable to understand any words was distracting. It was also far louder than it needed to be. I have been to loud concerts where it didn't feel overpowering. This was just a sledgehammer to the head for 30 minutes.
The main act didn't have near as many issues. There was a time or two where it would be better to up the vocals a bit. But it was very minimal compared to the opener. People generally know the words to the headliners songs. So slight mixing issues aren't as impactful as when you are hearing an opener you haven't seen before. The show was fantastic. The production was well designed, high impact, executed perfectly. The choices of songs, the order, variety of styles, etc. was all delightful. I have seen ID 6 times, and each has its own unique take/style. There are some songs I've heard 4 times in concert but were performed differently at each. And that is the magic of live concerts. This more piano-focused Radioactive was a new approach I liked.
I was disappointed in the quality and cost of the t-shirts. I've been to 4 concerts in the last 4 months (various artists) and got a shirt from each. They are usually $25-$40. The shirts here were $50. Which would be fine if they were really good quality. The shirt is a bit thin, not clingy thin but feels like it's on its way to threadbare thin. I don't think it will last as long as some of my ID shirts from 12 years ago. That I still have and can wear no problem. I am glad the material isn't overly clingy/form-fitting. That is a pet peeve of mine for concert tees.
The premium package was worth the cost. We got in early and were able to hit the merch booth, get food, and to our seats before most people got in. This was nice to avoid the crowds and was worth the additional cost. I was happy with the ticket prices.
I hope they hit more venues in future tours. So I can see them where I normally see them. I would drive again if I had to. But I appreciate when they hit more cities and are closer.
Was it my favorite concert I have ever been to? No. Was it my favorite ID concert, also no. Does it rank up there for memorable, great concerts? Yes!
All in all was a great show, highly recommend, would go again.
